Stormwater Drainage a Top Priority

Flooding is a continuous problem for the City of Belleair Beach. In fact, many streets near and south of the bridge flood on a regular basis. On the north side of town, several intersections often become nearly impassable with standing waters from typical summer downpours. A tropical storm of sizable magnitude could be devastating to our community.

As we approach the upcoming election, there is a sudden push to make things happen. On February 4th, the Council agreed to accept bids for improvements to the 3rd, 4th and 5th Street stormwater systems. For those on 7th Street, a grant application has been submitted that will assist funding next year’s drainage project. Farther north, lower-cost solutions are now being implemented to enhance or strengthen previously existing systems.

A strong City Council is needed to continue proactively addressing these issues. As your Council Member, I will fully support this recent momentum as I push to keep Stormwater Drainage a top priority of our City’s Strategic Plan.
